If you are fed up of hair gels that are expensive and harmful for your hair, here is a fast, simple and cheap recipe to make your own 100% natural hair gel to flatten your hair and enhance your curls.
What you need :
- Vegetable oil (optional)
- Tea filter
To make the homemade gel, mix one cup of flaxseed with 2 cups of water and place it over heat for around 10 minutes. Do not forget to stir while cooking to avoid flaxseeds sticking to the bottom of the pan.
You will see that flaxseed produce gel. Then remove the pan from heat and pour the product in a vessel of your choice while straining the seeds with a tea filter.
If you do not get enough gel you can repeat the process up to 4 times with the same seeds as long as they produce gel.
Note : the longer you boil the seeds, the more gelatinous the texture will be. It will also be harder to separate the seeds from the gel while straining.
You can also add some pure aloe vera gel as well as vegetable oils for hair care. Here we have repeated the process 2 times and we added 1 table spoon of castor oil, one tablespoon of argan oil and one tablespoon of coconut oil.
Thus you have a gel that is light and smells nice. The color and texture is somewhat unappealing but this is the only disadvantage of the product. The gel must be kept in the fridge and lasts around 10 days if you do not add any preservative. It can be used as much as needed as it does not break your hair and does not leave residue.
